With the Saint Clare Math Club students mimicking a drumroll, Julianne and Natalia announced, “We made $578!” Later that day, with $22 dollars more in donations, our total outcome for the first fundraiser of the year was $600.
The Saint Clare Math Club was founded in the fall of 2018 with the objective to help students have fun while learning Math and to develop a sense of responsibility and service, while strengthening leadership and teamwork skills and friendships.
Now in its second year, twenty middle school students meet each Friday after school for an hour. Students take on different roles: facilitator, academic chair, secretary, treasurer, promotion chair and event chair. Our logo, designed by the students, is a light bulb with four words: Advancement, Learning, Cooperation and Service.
This year, the students went on a field trip to Ford Greenfield Labs where they explored self-driving cars, drones, 3D printing, and other future innovations in car technologies. More recently, the students led a Christmas-themed fundraiser, with $300 donated to TeamTrees towards stewardship of the earth and the other $300 towards the Saint Clare School Thanksgiving Drive benefiting needy families.
Up ahead: a middle school math competition, guest speakers, lunchtime math games, tutoring elementary students and creating videos on how to solve certain math problems.
