On May 30, four sixth grade writing classes came together after an entire school year of corresponding between their two schools, Saint Simon and Saint John Vianney (SJV).
The sixth grade teacher from Saint Simon, Mrs. Tibbils and Mrs. Packard from Saint John Vianney, coordinated a day of friendship, and language arts for these sixth graders.
Mrs. Packard, SJV’s sixth Grade Language and Arts teacher, organized parents to chaperone and drive over to Saint Simon, Los Altos. Upon arrival the students warmly greeted each other, formed a large circle, as students grounded in Gospel values, a Saint Simon sixth grade student started the day with prayer. Witnessing 126 sixth graders coming together and meeting for the first time after many months of writing formal letters was a delight to see. The students not only played together, but prayed together.
Through a year of letter writing, they mastered writing formal letters, learning more about an unknown peer, and sharing information about their faith, hopes, experiences and accomplishments.
