(Alay sa Mahal na Ina)
The Diocesan Council of Filipino Catholics sponsored a celebration of thanksgiving honoring the Blessed Mother, “Alay Filipino sa Mahal na Ina” on July 29, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in San Jose. A procession of different sacred images of our Blessed Mother venerated in the Philippines preceded the Eucharistic Celebration presided by Father Generoso Geronimo and concelebrated by Father Ritchie Bueza (Vicar for Filipino Ministry), Monsignor Willie Manrique, Father Andy Ligot, Father Gerardo Menchaca, Father Mark Gazzingan, Father Vincent Pineda, Father Norman Segovia, Father Art Albano, Father Chady Segovia and Father Eddie Obero.
The sacred images represented various titles given to our Blessed Mother in the Philippines such as Our Lady of Manaoag, Our Lady of Piat, Our Lady of the Abandoned, “Ina Poong Bato,” Our Lady of Penafrancia, Our Lady of Caridad, Our Lady “Virgen de los Remedios,” Our Lady of Namacpacan, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Our Lady of Guadalupe (the second patroness of the Philippines), Our Lady of Antipolo (Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage), the symbol of Filipino-American Catholic faith and devotion to the Blessed Mother. This particular sacred image is now represented at the largest Roman Catholic Church in the United States, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Last but not least is the sacred image of Our Lady of Fatima. We join all devotees of our Blessed Mother in observing this year the 100th Anniversary of her apparitions in Fatima, Portugal.
