Saint Catherine School has offered robotics classes for several years, but this year the program has been expanded to include robotics teams who compete with other schools in the area. Twenty students initially signed up for the competitive team program with nineteen persevering to field four teams: Vex Wrecks, Vex USA, Matrix and Short Circuits.
Each team designs and builds a robot, writes code for robot commands, keeps a journal of all their work, and plans a STEM project. The teams constantly work to refine both their robotic designs and commands. Competition takes place in a constructed competitive field in which the students have their robot perform various tasks.
Educational Technologist, Antonio Silva, and teachers, Tadon Christopher and Jennifer Lamontagne, serve as moderators for the teams. After two meets and a tournament, one team, Vex Wrecks, qualified to compete at the state level in February in San Jose.
