Rest in Peace, George A. Chiala

May 29, 1942 – January 2, 2017

George A. Chiala, son of Vito and Catherine Chiala, born May 29, 1942, passed away January 2, 2017 in the presence of his family and closest friends.

Born in San Francisco and raised in Cupertino, California, George and his family moved to the Eastman Kodak Estate (Fountain Oaks Ranch) in Morgan Hill when he was 16 years old. He attended Saint Francis High School and graduated from the University of Santa Clara with a Bachelor’s of Science degree.

George was an innovator, building his first vegetable processing plant alongside his wife, Alice, in 1984; a community leader; a steward of the environment working for over a decade on a revolutionary green technology that will enable his plants to run entirely off of clean, green energy within the next 5 to 8 years; a philanthropist spearheading development on Saint John XXIII Preparatory High School of Morgan Hill, California; supporting Saint Louise Regional Hospital of Gilroy, California; as well as numerous other charities within the community he served and loved; and to all who knew him well, a great man.

His can-do attitude and relentless ability to dream big helped build an impressive agricultural domain. But what George was most proud of was his family’s involvement, especially the participation of his beloved wife, Alice, who serves as company CFO, his two sons, George Jr. and Tim, who run and operate GC Farms as full partners, his two daughters, Christi and Nicole who are board members, and his eight grandchildren whom he was confident will continue the family farming legacy. Loving siblings Rosemarie, John, Bill and Fran, along with nieces, nephews and their children also survive George. George’s brother Rick predeceased him.
