Connect in Christ at Faith Formation Conference 2016

By Liz Sullivan

The 14th Annual Faith Formation Conference this year – Connect in Christ – will have a little different look. For the first time, the conference will  be held at the San Jose Convention Center and is being held simultaneously with the National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry (NCCYM). The FFC event is sponsored by the Diocese of San Jose and the Diocese of Monterey.

“The San Jose Convention Center, located in downtown San Jose, is a new location for us and offers larger meeting and exhibit spaces, several hotels offering conference rates, and numerous dining options within walking distance of the convention center,” said Co-Executive Director Tish Scargill, Director of Catechetical Ministries for the Diocese of Monterey. “The decision to combine the national conference, NCCYM, with our regional conference, Faith Formation Conference, came from the realization that both conferences would be targeting some of the same audience. In addition, the responsibilities of the local diocese(s) would be overwhelming for the staff and volunteers, hosting two major conferences in a few weeks of each other.”

From December 1-3, the NCCYM convention will be held. On Dec. 2, FFC kicks off and will be held through December 3. To attend both conferences you must register for the NCCYM conference.

This year’s FFC event will feature a keynote address on December 2 from Bishop Frank Caggiano, the fifth bishop of Bridgeport, Connecticut. The following day, Chris Stefanick will be the English Keynote and speak about “Witness Matters: Creating an Evangelizing Parish Culture.”

A Mass celebrated by Diocese of San Jose Bishop Patrick J. McGrath wraps up the convention at 4 p.m. on December 2.

“This year’s attendees will experience a national conference, while still seeing familiar faces working on the team,” said Scargill. “There is a greater number of speakers and workshop selections, prayer experiences will be enhanced and attendees will have the opportunity to connect with others in ministry from around the U.S. Technology and social media will be highlighted, with a conference App, hash tags, and selfies.”

Regular registration ends November 15. To register for this year’s event, visit www.faithformationconference.com. For the conference details, on social media go to #FFCnorcal.
