Catholic Academy of Sunnyvale Students Focusing Hard on STEM Program

755

Catholic Academy of Sunnyvale has a strong focus on the protection of the environment in response to the call from Pope Francis for greater stewardship of the earth. In addition to the coding, robotics and industrial design components of their STEM program, Catholic Academy students are learning about real-world problems and the people who are working to solve them.

During a recent assembly, Rick Baxter, owner of Golden Harvest Bees from Redwood City, joined students for a presentation on the importance of bees as pollinators and some of the factors leading certain bee species to now be on the endangered species list. In addition to seeing an enclosed hive up close, students were able to ask questions, hold a honeycomb, smell a jar of propolis and even taste honey from the local hive.
