Saint John Vianney School’s third-grade students took to the streets to learn more about how a community works. The class and chaperones led by Mrs. Packard walked one block of Alum Rock Avenue to visit seven community services and businesses. At most stops, the students received a tour of the community service or business with a question-and-answer session. The seven stops included the Alum Rock Library, Goodwill, Orchard Supply Hardware, CitiBank, Mountain Mike’s Pizza, Calvary Catholic Cemetery, and Fire Station #2. The students concluded this lesson by drawing a map of the places they visited and wrote a reflection. The students continue to learn about how their community is made of many parts and each has tremendous value.
