In the early 1800’s, Edmund Burke, an Irish statesman who served in the British Parliament said “all that is needed for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.” Romans 13:11-13 states “And to this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” It is time for all good people to put on their own “armor of light” to fight the atrocity of the culture of death that steadfastly exists in our modern day society. Evil triumphs when good men do nothing. It is our duty as a soldier of Christ to not just be pleased with ourselves because we are good but it is our responsibility to actively fight to end the evil in our society. If good men and women do nothing to destroy such evil then it will flourish and inflict further damage on society. For if the good people don’t destroy it, who will?
How can we put on the armor of light to encourage our fellow Christians to abide by God’s commandment “You shall not kill?” (Exodus 20:13) One of the most effective ways that we can abide by this commandment and restore our society to a culture of life is through prayer. It is only through prayer that God will fulfill his promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14 which states, “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
Help us restore a culture of life in our city and county by participating in the 2016 Fall 40 Days for Life Campaign that will run from September 28 through November 6. We will be holding daily prayer vigils from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day in front of the abortion clinic at 1691 The Alameda in San Jose. Just come out to the sidewalk to pray or you can sign up at our website. On September 22, Bishop Patrick McGrath will celebrate Mass with us at Sacred Heart Church, 13716 Saratoga Ave, Saratoga. In addition, all good people are invited to pray at the 24-Hour Adoration from 8 a.m. on September 27 to
8 a.m. on September 28 at St. Leo Chapel in San Jose. A procession will be held on September 28 immediately following the 8 a.m. Mass at St. Leo to walk to the abortion clinic where we will have a prayer vigil. Email Mary Ann at email@example.com to sign up for Adoration. For more information, visit www.40daysforlife.com/sanjose.
