A Sister of Charity, BVM with ties to the Diocese of San José will celebrate 75 years in religious life this fall. This year the jubilarian group also includes sisters celebrating 73, 72 and 70 years.
Sister Rita Mary Zander is among 29 diamond jubilarians who gathered in the Mount Carmel Motherhouse Chapel in Dubuque, Iowa, on Sept. 11 for a liturgy of thanksgiving.
Sister was born in Chicago and entered the BVM congregation on September 8, 1943. She professed first vows on March 19, 1946, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1951. Sister Rita taught at Saint Leo School in San Jose. She also taught elementary and junior high school in San Francisco and Palm Springs; Las Vegas; and Butte and Missoula, Montana, where she also served as school treasurer. Sister is retired and lives in Dubuque.
