Sister of Providence Celebrating Jubilee


A total of 34 Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, are celebrating Jubilees this year, one of whom has ties to the Diocese of San Jose.

60-year Jubilarian
Sister Joan Kirkpatrick is a native of Walsenburg, CO. Currently, she ministers in care at Providence Health Care, located at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Sister Joan, formerly Sister Joan Patrice, entered the Congregation on July 22, 1956, from Our Lady of Angels, Hillsborough, CA. She professed Perpetual Vows on August 15, 1964.

She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. She earned a Master’s Degree in Administration from the University of Notre Dame, and another Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University.

Her Diocese of San Jose ministry was as a psychotherapist intern at Adult & Child Guidance Center and Associated Counselors, in San Jose and Los Gatos.

Sister Joan has also ministered in Illinois, Indiana and California.
