In an historic move, the Board of Trustees of Bellarmine College Preparatory has named Chris Meyercord as the school’s first lay president.
A July 19 letter to the Bellarmine community from Andrew Moley, chair of the Board of Trustees, announced that, effective immediately, Meyercord officially accepted the position that he has held on an interim basis since June 1, 2015, following the nearly ten year presidency of his predecessor, Rev. Paul G. Sheridan, S.J.
“During the past academic year, it became increasingly clear to the Board of Trustees that Chris possesses the requisite qualities that will serve the school by his presidency well beyond what was originally a two-year interim position,” Moley noted in the announcement that also conveyed gratitude to Meyercord for, “… his leadership, his commitment to Jesuit education, and his dedication to the family that is Bellarmine.”
Meyercord, a Bellarmine alumnus from the class of 1988, has worked at the school since 1992, where he has held several positions, including faculty member, admissions director, assistant principal, principal, and interim president.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by this responsibility, and am grateful to the Jesuits and to our Board for their trust,” said Meyercord. “Bellarmine is a special and wonderful place, thanks to the amazing faculty and staff with whom I work, some remarkable alumni, supportive families, and of course, terrific students who are our very reason for existence. Working together, we get to help form young men ‘for and with others,’ people who are dedicated to making the world a better place by growing their gifts and talents, and then putting them at the service of others. That is very worthwhile work, and I’m lucky to be a part of it.”
Meyercord and his wife of 20 years, Jeanette, have two children: a daughter, Sadie, and son, Luke, who will enter Bellarmine as a freshman this school year.
The announcement also indicated that a formal, comprehensive search for a principal will begin in September with the intent being to announce a decision early in 2017. The position is being held on an interim basis by former assistant principal Kristina Luscher who, along with her co-administrators, has been instrumental to the seamless continuity of school leadership.
Bellarmine College Prep, founded in 1851, educates 1,650 young men in the Jesuit tradition of formation of the whole person.
