Saint Lucy School’s Family Groups program wrapped up the school year with a new tradition: a Family Groups picnic, held during a Friday lunchtime. Family Groups, consisting of one student from each grade level in K-8, meet monthly and help foster connections. The monthly meetings make Saint Lucy School students feel known and loved not only by their grade-level classmates, but by many other friends throughout the school. This connection across grade levels is intentional and helps build a warm and friendly student community.
The eighth graders act as Family Group leaders all year long. These student leaders work over the summer prior to their year of leadership to write their own prayers as well as design many group activities that they will share with their Family Group. The school theme of “Let Your Light Shine” was incorporated into each Family Group activity this year. As Family Groups gathered for their last meeting, they created family crests that displayed all that they had learned and how they had let their light shine during the school year. It was especially touching to see the older students escorting the younger ones back to their classes on after their final meeting. Our younger students will miss their eighth Grade Family Group leaders!!
