Joseph’s Love of Running Was Only Surpassed by His Love for His Wife Angelika and the Church

Joseph Harold La Scola, former parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and graduate of Sacred Heart School in Saratoga was honored on April 16. Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County’s 3rd Annual Spring Forward 5K/10K Walk/Run was held in Joseph Harold’s honor as a tribute to his love of running and his love of the Church.

Joseph Harold’s parents, Joseph and Emily, wanted to honor him in a way that he would have loved. Participating in Spring Forward was a fitting tribute. The La Scola family and many friends from around the state gathered as Team Joseph joined other racers and walkers in the event.

Joseph Harold was an active member of the Catholic community. He attended daily Mass, was involved in Catholic Retreat for Young Singles (CRYS), Curisillo, was a Lector in his parish, and was a friendly familiar face both locally and in Phoenix, Arizona, where he lived with the love of his life, his wife Angelika. He died of a fatal brain aneurysm on his 50th birthday, September 23, 2015.

Being with the Lord in His Creation was another aspect of religious devotion for Joseph Harold, and it sparked his love of running. He finished 10 consecutive full marathons and many half-marathons around the southwest. He enjoyed sharing those “shorter” runs with friends, whom he encouraged to, “Come out and breath the fresh air God has given us!”

Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, is humbled and thankful to the La Scola family for honoring Joseph Harold at their 3rd Annual Spring Forward event.
