As is tradition, each year the Saint Martin of Tours 5th grade class don wigs and coifs and bring to life the famous American Revolution. The class is divided into groups for each of the battles scenes: Lexington and Concord, Trenton and Valley Forge, and Yorktown. Each group has a “General” who is the leader of the group and assists with leading the rehearsals of the battle scenes. Time is spent in class and at home practicing for their performance.
In their lessons, the students learned how political, religious, and economic ideas and events, including the Boston Massacre, brought about the American Revolution. They also learn about the First and Second Continental Congresses. A portion of this also includes the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the key political leaders responsible for this historical document. Students were presented official certificates for their participation in this event.
