Bellarmine’s Winter Musical Kicks Off February 26

With the election cycle in full swing, there’s no better time for Bellarmine College Prep’s Winter Musical, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. The show, which runs February 26 through March 5, kicks off with the song “Populism, Yea, Yea!” reintroducing people to an Age of Jackson that looks awfully familiar right now: a disaffected populace rallying behind a Washington outsider (á la Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump) who makes the elites nervous.
The trending story of the new populism and a looming, thrilling election reinforce what The New York Times said of this electric, hilarious, and moving musical in 2010, “There’s not a show in town that more astutely reflects the state of this nation…” Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson is also a rollicking history lesson of sorts that answers the question “So who’s that guy on my $20 bill?” Our seventh president—“Old Hickory,” “The People’s President,” and primary founder of the Democratic Party.
Participants include students from Bellarmine College Prep, Presentation High School, Notre Dame High School, and Archbishop Mitty High School.
