When Saint Francis High School received news that the Tubbs fire in Santa Rosa last October nearly destroyed Cardinal Newman High School, students wanted to show their support for their North Bay brothers and sisters who were scattered to remote classrooms so that their own campus could be made safe again.
Lancers used the annual Raising Hope Drive to help their counterparts finish the school year strong. Proceeds from the drive were split between Cardinal Newman and the financial aid endowment at Saint Francis. Students asked their loved ones to contribute, and members of the community answered the call for the two schools.
“At Saint Francis, we celebrate family, and Cardinal Newman is part of our family,” said senior Anjalee Patel, one of the ASB members who helped rally fellow students.
The ASB co-presidents from Cardinal Newman, seniors Jacob Benham and Kasey Braun, and two administrators from the school, President Laura Held and Assistant Principal Bernadette Calhoun, were invited to attend the Saint Francis spring rally. There, they were grateful to receive a $50,000 check for the rebuilding efforts at their school.
