The graduates celebrate their victory against the Dads.

Each year, the lights shine just a bit brighter in the Saint Nicholas School gymnasium as the eighth grade graduating class challenges their parents to the hottest basketball rivalry on the lower peninsula. Basketball shoes are dusted off while dads, moms and kids go deep into practices either on the court or for the half-time show. The weeks leading up are full of good-natured ribbing and rivalry, promises of fast breaks and blocked shots, each side sure of the win.

This year’s match up was December 9 in the new Kevin Kannengeiser Activity Center with celebrity referee Mister K. himself – a legend and legacy on the Saint Nicholas campus. The extra special VIP guest was Father John Poncini whose game was certainly buoyed by the Holy Spirit!

Half-time featured a dance off between the Moms and Grads – the moms were very spirited – while the Grads danced it off to “Havana” by Camila Cabello. Although the Dads fought valiantly, no amount of ribbing tipped the ball their way – the Grads won handily 62 – 41. The Dads emerged victorious after all – no injuries for the old guys is a win in our books!
