Our Lady of Refuge Pastor Father Hugo Rojas blesses scholarship recipients.

Recently, seventeen college students of Our Lady of Refuge Parish received the Father Jorge da Silva Memorial Scholarship. These students presently are attending college at UC Berkeley, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State East Bay, San Jose State University, Sonoma State University, West Valley College, Evergreen College, San Jose City College, Notre Dame de Namur University and Marymount California University.

Three years ago this scholarship was established to assist college-bound students at Our Lady of Refuge to follow their dream of furthering their education, in order to become the best they can be and to make a difference in our world. These students come from low to mid socio-economic backgrounds and they had been excellent examples in their high schools by being admitted to prestigious colleges and universities. They have also been actively dedicated volunteers and ministers by serving the community of Our Lady of Refuge.

The students include incoming freshmen through senior year. Their majors include: Aeronautical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Sociology, Business, Mechanical Engineering, Paralegal Studies, Justice Studies, Psychology and Theology, Health Science, Electrical Engineering, Bio-chemistry, Education, and Computer Science.

We are grateful for scholarship support from our Bishop Patrick J. McGrath from his personal support and from his Circle of Excellence; to the Sisters of the Holy Names Community, Saint Mary Parish in Los Gatos, friends of Father Jorge da Silva, S.M., and to many other generous donors who made these college scholarship awards possible.
