A long-standing tradition for the third graders at Saint Christopher School is a visit from Keith Gutierrez, an Ohlone expert, who travels around the Bay Area teaching students about the Native Americans who lived in our backyard. The students learn about our local Native Americans through hands-on activities, song and dance.
During the 90-minute presentation, the students experienced how the Ohlone would grind acorns, hunt and gather. In addition to playing games and making face paint, some students assisted Gutierrez in starting a fire just like the Ohlone would. Gutierrez is widely popular at Saint Christopher School and they look forward to his visit year after year.
