Cristo Rey San Jose’s boys and girls soccer teams made waves at the Earthquake’s Winterfest event on December 10. Cristo Rey San Jose played the feature game in the Earthquake’s High School Soccer Series, which will continue all winter. Despite the rain and cold weather, a large crowd turned out to the Winterfest event to play in the snow, participate in holiday activities, and watch the Cristo Rey Lions face off against the Saint Francis Sharks from Watsonville.
The Lady Lions played first, and though they put in a tremendous effort, the Saint Francis Sharks came away with a convincing 5-0 victory. In between the matches, the Cristo Rey music club, the Lyrical Lions, performed a beautiful rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” before the crowd. They boys played next and delivered an impressive 3-0 win over Saint Francis, with goals scored by sophomores Manny Ramirez and Kevin Valladares, and freshman Jarrette Barajas! It was an amazing day filled with spirited support for the teams by families, faculty, staff and other Cristo Rey San Jose students.
