Sister Paula Guhs, PBVM, (Religious name Sister Marguerite-Marie) entered eternal life on July 14 at the Presentation Motherhouse in San Francisco.
A native of Glendale, California, Sister Paula was born in 1922 and was a Sister of the Presentation for 76 years, having entered the Convent on July 2, 1940.
Sister Paula was predeceased by her parents, Marie-Louise Jeanne Gries and Frank Guhs, and her sister, Marguerite Moore.
She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Smith, a niece, Jennie Ruth Henderson, and a nephew, Scott Evan Handt, as well as her loving Presentation Sisters.
Sister Paula earned a B.A. degree in education and an elementary teaching credential from Immaculate Heart College, Hollywood.
In the Diocese of San Jose, Sister Paula served as vice principal/teacher, and church staff member for four years: from 1958 to1961 at Saint Patrick, San Jose; and from 1961 to 1962 at Saint Mary, Gilroy.
Sister Paula also served in Los Angeles, Montebello, San Francisco and Edmonds, Washington.
In addition, to being a classroom teacher for thirty-eight years, Sister Paula was a CCD teacher, vice-principal, teen moderator, first-aid instructor, bookkeeper, missionary, house manager, companion, seamstress and a driver.
