Archbishop Mitty High School’s commencement was held on Saturday, May 28. The Class of 2016 included 417 students who were awarded diplomas by Principal Tim Brosnan, in the ceremony on Father Jack Russi Field.

Five graduates were recognized at graduation for their exceptional academic scholarship and outstanding contributions in a variety of co-curricular areas. The Valedictorian and Salutatorian are selected by the Academic Council, based on academic achievement that includes a high grade point average, having taken the most challenging course load offered at the school, demonstrating an extraordinary facility for both written and oral expression, and perceived as our top scholar by the junior and senior year honors teachers.

The Valedictorian for the Class of 2016 is Athreya Steiger. Athreya’s academic and co-curricular achievements at Archbishop Mitty are impressive. He had the honor of delivering the valedictory address at graduation. In his four years at Archbishop Mitty, he has achieved an impressive 4.77 academic grade point average having taken most of the Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors courses offered at Archbishop Mitty. Athreya will continue his remarkable achievements at Stanford University.

The Class of 2016 Salutatorian is Jacob Isaacs. Jacob has maintained a 4.67 academic grade point average over his four years, while taking honors and Advanced Placement (AP) classes in every discipline. He has taken 12 Advanced Placement courses, and has received undergraduate academic excellence awards in all academic departments. Jacob will continue his education at Carlton College.

Also honored at the graduation ceremonies were three students who received awards that are unique to the Archbishop Mitty community. The awards recipients were:
Archbishop Oscar Romero Award: Hannah Villalpando
The Romero award, named for the former Salvadoran Archbishop who fought and died for the cause of social justice, draws our attention to the core of the mission of Archbishop Mitty High School, recognizes a graduating senior who is deeply committed to Christian Service and the Campus Ministry program.

The Archbishop Mitty Board of Regents honors one young woman and one young man in recognition of their overall service to the school community. This year’s recipients were:
Emma Dapkus – Emma is an outstanding academic student whose achievements and contributions are felt in the AMHS community and beyond.

Gabe Mallari – Gabe has made his mark at Archbishop Mitty in a multitude of ways. He is a well-respected leader both inside and outside the classroom.

Maddie Holland was named the Female Athlete of the Year and Nick LaBruna the Male Athlete of the Year. Maddie excels in Women’s Basketball, and Nick excelled in Football and Basketball.

The Gary Braia Service Award is presented annually to those members of the graduating class who demonstrate exceptional service to the school community. Thirty-seven members of the Class of 2016 have been recognized with the Gary Braia Service Award.

O’Hara, Kristyna Otto, Gian Pancipanci, Calvin Quittner, Anthony Rodman, Elizabeth Shroyer, Josh Smith, Athreya Steiger, Gina Tersini, Hannah Villalpando, Amanda White, Jocelyn Woods, and Amulya Yerrapotu.
