More than 360 guests attended Bellarmine College Preparatory’s 37th Annual President’s Award Dinner, held in the Samuel A. Liccardo Campus Center. The donor recognition event features the presentation of the President’s Award, given to those who have demonstrated support to Bellarmine in a variety of ways.
Chris Meyercord, president of Bellarmine, bestowed the award upon this year’s recipient, Gary Filizetti, president of Milpitas-based Devcon Construction, Inc. Devcon was the contractor during Bellarmine’s successful Campaign for the 21st Century, which resulted in the transformation of the campus through the building of the Sobrato Center for Humanities and the Arts, Lorry I. Lokey Academic Center, Br. Wally Ryan, S.J. & Fr. Bob Shinney, S.J. Student Life Center, and the Patricia and Stephen Schott Athletic Center.
Filizetti is also among the many contributors supporting the school’s Financial Aid program, which provides tuition assistance to one in every four Bellarmine students.
“Gary’s generosity also extends to his support of our Financial Aid Program, as he … recognizes the return on investment by assisting in our mission of ensuring that qualified students are able to benefit from a Bellarmine education, regardless of their financial circumstances,” said Meyercord during the award presentation.
In addition to Bellarmine and Santa Clara University, Filizetti is supportive of many nonprofit organizations and causes, including the Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose, Pacific Salmon Foundation, Hollister Rodeo, All Stars Helping Kids, Sharks Foundation, 49ers Foundation, and St. Francis High School.
The event included remarks by Bellarmine senior Julian Cabrera of San Jose who conveyed his appreciation to the donors whose support advances opportunities for students, and who reflected upon his four years at the school, noting that, “Bellarmine imparts in its students the spirit of brotherhood and community.”
