The first grade class at Saint John the Baptist, Milpitas and their teacher Heather Hinkley were excited to honor the Milpitas Police Department. First graders have been learning all about the rules and laws that are in place to make our community safe. The students wrote in their individual journals about police officers and all of the things that they do for us to make sure those rules and laws are followed.
In celebration of “National Thank A Police Officer Day,” Saint John School took some time to honor the Milpitas Police Department on September 19th by bringing a book that the first grade class made for them, some treats (donated by Christy’s Donuts, The Donut Basket and Saint John’s Student Council), and a “Thank You” poster made by the school’s Pre-Kindergarten class. Parents and students were greeted with excitement by Officer Dan Walker and Sgt. Matt Miller. As a token of their appreciation, Sgt. Miller gave students the opportunity to explore and learn about the law enforcement vehicle. The students also met Jax (3 year old German Shepherd) and K-9 officer, Officer Ryan Lawson. Everyone learned about Jax and the amazing job the police dogs do to assist the police.
Gail McHugh (Vice-Principal) states, “We thank our Milpitas Police for their total dedication and self-sacrifice to ensure that our community and its people are safe! You are our heroes!!!”
