Fifth Grade students at Saint Mary School in Gilroy received Bibles at a special school-wide Mass on September 22.
Father Robert Brocato blessed the Bibles, and students were encouraged to read them frequently with great love and faith.
Fifth graders made special bookmarks for the Bibles, and they love to take out their Bible during “free reading” time. Bibles are an important part of Catholic identity at St. Mary School. They are used extensively during 5th through 8th grades at the school. Students learn to locate Biblereferences, and then read and interpret the passages.
Fifth graders may create storyboards or perform skits based on Bible passages. In sixth grade, students use Bibles frequently as they study the Old Testament and work on a Jesse Tree project. Seventh and eighth grade students work on “SOW” (Scripture of the Week) projects.
